Who is the interviewer? Rose Shepherd
In this article, Miss Henrietta C. Dozier was interviewed by Rose Shepherd on March 1, 1939 in Jacksonville, FL. She was an architect and during the interview she was 65 years old. She was born in Fernandia in 1874. Her father died four months before she was born. She had an older brother and a younger sister. When she was younger she would draw up different plans. In the article she says,"Even in my childhood I wanted to study architecture, and have drawn plans since I was seven. In fact, when I was just a little tot I used to draft patterns for doll dresses for my own and the neighbor children's dolls." She was an apprentice in an architect's office in Atlanta for a year and then attended Pratt Institute for two years. She graduated in 1899 with a B.S. degree in arcitecture. During the depression she said that her and other architects suffered severely.Based on what Miss Henrietta C. Dozier has said in her interview, my impression is that she really loves her work and wants to do whats right. She knew that she wanted to be an architect even though she did have an interest in astronomy. In the article she said,"By the time I had finished high school, however, I had also become interested in astronomy, and I have often wondered whether I might not have attained more of a monetary success in the field; at least, there would not have been such enormous competition. I have always kept up my interest in astronomy, and study the subject seriously whenever I have the opportunity, so I may say that is my avocation." She liked astronomy, but she liked architecture even more and she knew that was what she wanted to do in life. She was very focused.
